Drought! What drought? Apparently we are in danger of hosepipe bans owing to the lack of rain we have had in parts of the country. Well the rain is certainly making up for it today! It has not stopped since through the night! In fact the rain is so bad today that the final of the men's tennis at Queen's in London has been put off until Monday and for the majority of the afternoon while hoping to watch the Canadian Grand Prix, for long time I was watching boats and birds and stewards mopping up water! I am not aware of a band of rain covering half the world before but it certainly has today!!!
In the end approximately 5 hours after the race had started and after a number of stoppages and safety car incidents, Jenson Button won the Grand Prix. Not bad after his team mate Lewis Hamilton had hit him early on in and incident that saw Hamilton have to retire from the race.
June 12th is the day that Anne Frank was born and if she had not died in a concentration camp when she was 15 she would be 81 years old today. A few years ago I was instrumental in having a tree planted on Plymouth Hoe in memory of her. Today, despite the rain I went to take some flowers to place by the "Anne Frank" Tree. I originally planned on tulips but had to settle for a couple of yellow roses.
Next Saturday there is a memorial service in the National Arboretum in Staffordshire as part of SANDS Awareness month. As SANDS became a big part of my life after my daughter was stillborn in 2005, today I played 17 songs associated with infant loss. Hopefully it will raise awareness through my friends on Facebook that 17 babies a day are stillborn or will not live past their 28th day of life. The campaign WHY17? promotes awareness. WHY17? One is too many!
